Optometry Wales attended the Welsh Labour Conference held at Venue Cymru, Llandudno. Optometry Wales spoke to several Members of Senedd and Members of Parliament (including the First Minister, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care and Stephen Kinnock MP) about the important role that primary care optometry provides in supporting patients with urgent eye conditions, helping patients to get care closer to home and relieving pressure elsewhere in the NHS. Optometry Wales highlighted the need for a digital strategy as a key enabler to the delivery of patient care.
11/12 October 2024: Optometry Wales attended the Plaid Cymru Autumn Conference at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff
OW spoke to 8 Members of Senedd and 1 Member of Parliament about the NHS Services provided by optometry practices in Wales and specifically raised attention to WGOS2 services and asked for political support in promoting optometry services to their constituents to increase the awareness of the general public of the services provided.
OW also raised awareness of some of the challenges being faced by practices particularly in comparison to other parts of primary care including the need for both a workforce and digital strategy.
